No one can deny the adverse effects of global warming. The frequency of hurricanes, storms, and tornado in several countries, including Indonesia, more common than 20 years ago. This is proof positive. Global appeal any reduction in global temperature formations.

Meeting of the countries of forest owners in 2005 in Marakesh, Morocco, also agreed to preserve the environment. Without a global appeal, Indonesia since the 1970s has been proclaimed forest conservation, including reforestation.
However, the reduction of forest occur. These factors cause is the population growth from 120 million to 240 million people today, the expansion of oil palm plantation and business interests that sustain economic growth, and smuggling of timber to foreign countries.
Not all forest encroachment because it is one of the negative consequences of economic development, including the provision of land for housing and factories. Things may have prevented forest encroachment hard is illegal to export logs.
This paper is encouraging other countries with forest owners, Indonesia in the spotlight about preservation for the sake of decreasing global warming. World Bank in 2007 states, Indonesia producing carbon dioxide (CO) due to the largest forest encroachment, the controversial allegations.
There are some suspicious things. The UN has a forest conservation scheme, called Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD). REDD supporters say, is the best and fastest way. REDD strengthened at the Copenhagen meeting, Danish, December 2009.
Indonesia is committed to REDD. In return, Indonesia received a grant from the Norwegian one billion U.S. dollars. This will also be applied in Brazil, several countries in South America, Asia and South Pacific. A group of developed countries, including Australia, UK, Danish, French, German, Japanese, Swedish, and U.S., is committed to funding REDD.
Indonesia is committed to planting trees in an area of 21 million hectares of land to reduce green house emissions 26 percent by 2020 from 1990 levels and will reduce 41 percent if there are additional funds from the West.
Why must rely on foreign assistance for reforestation. Is not there a reforestation fund?
Why deepening of REDD schemes increased considerably compared to the main program of global warming? Is not the majority of global warming caused by emissions beyond the destruction of forests? Some experts say, the contribution of forest destruction on a global emissions was 15 percent, the rest is fossil fuel emissions, which increased more rapidly than deforestation.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that the change of land use CO contribute as much as 1.6 Gt of carbon per year. For comparison, fuel emissions accounted for 6.3 Gt CO carbon.
Why forests in some developing countries being targeted. World Food Organization (FAO) said, global deforestation reached 13 million hectares per year, including forests in wealthy nations.
Indian daily, The Times of India, May 28, 2010 edition, to question, why China and India are not included in REDD. At a meeting in Oslo, Oslo Climate and Forests Conference, May 27, Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg said. ”We will focus on all forests. However, we are still more focused on the preservation of existing forest just yet, “Stoltenberg said.
Researchers continue to question the strangeness of it. ”Handling of forests in developed countries is also important,” said Michael Richardson from his article titled “Ensuring Redd Is Not Mere Pulp Fiction” in The Straits Times on June 7. Richardson is a researcher at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies.
The activists and elites associated economic and environmental development which implicitly understood the article insinuated fraud Richardson West, who aspire to growth by offsetting the pollution tolerance of forest preservation in developing countries, who are most in need of economic development to raise the socioeconomic status of 1.2 billion people globally.
Meeting in Bonn
More scandals uncovered during a meeting in Bonn, Germany, May 31-June 11, which was attended by negotiators from 185 countries. The meeting agreed to reduce emissions 80-95 percent by 2050 for developed countries and no visible plan for 2020. Base emission reductions are also not in 1990. U.S. wants its base is the year 2005.
Bonn meeting successfully plugged REDD, a 10 billion dollar U.S. aid per year during 2010-2012 to more than 100 billion dollars since 2020.
Assess developing countries there is no fundamental progress about the fight against global warming. ”The discussion is not about the essence,” said Kim Carstensen of WWF International.
Chairman of the Delegation of Bolivia Pablo Solon said, “This is not a debate that we want.”
Chairman of the United Nations about climate (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change) Christiana Figueres said the government must face this challenge. Yvo de Boer, who replaced Figueres, pessimistic. ”We’re in a long journey to address climate change,” said De Boer.
Alden Meyer of the Union of Concerned Scientists, based in the U.S., teasing. ”Figueres Expectations are too high.”
British daily, The Guardian, June 9 edition of the more deadly write stuff again. Rather than reducing emissions at least 30-40 per cent in 2020, developed countries actually increased emissions of 8 percent. This is done by doing tricks in the calculation of emission reductions. This trick is the use of carbon markets to legalize as many as 30 percent of emissions in developed countries with the preservation of compensation in other countries.
The same daily edition written June 8, the West did a trick by presenting data of forest planting, but it shows a real logging data. ”This is a scandal that had no flavor and a disaster for the climate,” said Sean Cadman from the Climate Action Network, a coalition of 500 environmental and development groups from around the world. ”Only the Swiss who do not want to do that,” said Cadman.
Similarly, about commitment to help REDD. Help is stated is that previously promised aid was given, but diverted to help forest conservation.
Antonio Hill of Oxfam warned that there is potential for developing countries would be debt relief and would be detrimental because REDD assistance from aid that was intended for improving health and education systems. Chairman of the Delegation of the European Union argue Laurent Graff. ”Help is real and truly prepared.”

The underwater world is not as quiet as we think. At least, that’s the conclusion of a New Zealand researcher who found the facts proved that fish can ‘talk’ to each other.

“Fish communicate with sounds including grunts, chirps, and appearance,” says University of Auckland’s marine experts, Shahriman Ghazali, quoted by local newspaper reports, the New Zealand Herald edition Wednesday.

According to him, all the fish can hear, but not all can make a sound. ”The others made a noise by vibrating their fins,” he said.

Fish communicate with one another for different reasons. Communication, he said, meant to invite friends, scare from predators, or their own orientation. ”Species gurnard even has an extensive vocal repertoire and continue a constant chatter,” said Ghazali.

In contrast, cod is usually relatively calm, except for those who are in the process of spawning. Some reef fish, such as damselfish, making the sound to try to intimidate and even threaten fish and divers, he said.

Ghazali conduct research in a giant aquarium in natural-like setting under the sea. Research hypothesis is that fish use the sounds as the synchronization so that male and female fish can reproduce together. He presented his findings at a conference of New Zealand Marine Sciences Society today.

SAN FRANCISCO – It seems the concept of floating houses more attention lately. Which means, thinking people are starting to move from a strange assumption to be more concerned with conceptual and practical.

Foundation founded by Hollywood actor, Brad Pitt is Brad Pitt’s Make It Right Foundation has worked hard to try to rebuild the city of New Orleans after Hurricane attack through innovative designs that are environmentally friendly. They involve the co-designer of Morphosis Architects to try to create homes that can float when the water-borne.

Founder of Morphosis, Thom Mayne is a winner of prestigious awards in the field of architecture, namely the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Regarding new projects, Mayne told National Public Radio (NPR), they tried to develop an idea to build a house with potential flood conditions experienced in Katrina, the United States.
.

Thus, if water levels increase then the house will float. The house has a height of about 3.65 meters high is equivalent to the street signs.

Then, the householder can easily unplug electrical and plumbing. The house is also equipped with battery power to the equipment and devices for three days and made from environmentally friendly materials.

Could it be that concept can be widely applied? Still too early predict it, but it is a creative idea which ought appreciated

United States space agency NASA will launch the first mission dedicated to oceanographic research in the Arctic Ocean ice cover.
Mission ‘Climate Impacts on Ecosystems and Environmental Chemistry Arctic Pacific,’ or Icescape, will utilize icebreaker U.S. Coast Guard, the Healy, on 15 June. More than 40 scientists will be spending five weeks at sea to conduct sampling of physical properties of chemical and biological ocean waters and ice, to try to determine how changes affect the chemistry in the Arctic ocean and its ecosystems.

Last year, a study using data from NASA satellites show that the Arctic sea ice thinning dramatically between the winter of 2004 and 2008, with a thick older ice shrinks the equivalent of Alaska’s land area. ”Arctic sea ice is now only a thin layer of a thickness of 3 meters to 1.5 meters and completely vulnerable to climate change,” said Don Perovich, one Icescape chief scientist, said on Tuesday.

One of the key efforts of the mission Icescape will see how changes in the Arctic ocean could alter the ability to absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Greenhouse gas carbon dioxide is the main cause of global warming, and to be able to predict future climate changes, scientists need to know how the carbon cycle works in various parts of the world.

Icescape will concentrate on the Chukchi and Beaufort seas of Alaska, according to scientists who are highly vulnerable to global warming. An automated microscope at The Healy will take digital photos of phytoplankton cells to observe how many different species in the waters and the Arctic ice sheet. An appliance will be fitted with a float near real-time communications satellites for updating data.

Traveling is fun, but traveling can also unwittingly give a bad impact on the environment, especially in terms of carbon emissions. Also, no tourist area which was previously rarely have the enchanting scenery, damaged by the visit of the traveler who does not care for nature.

Here are tips that can be practiced in order to travel a minimal impact on the environment.

1. Avoid using vehicles that emit large CO2nya in traveling to their destination.
2. Use of mass transportation facilities, bicycle rental, cart or on foot to enjoy the beauty and uniqueness of the area that we visit beautiful places including hidden.
3. Acquainted with many people on the go, one way to be able to share the vehicle. It will save CO2 emissions, saving travel costs, and certainly adds a lot of friends.
4. Buy food on the sidewalk, shops, or restaurants population. It can reduce the emissions used to transport food from distant locations and to contribute directly to local communities. In addition, the device usually eat at the local shop does not use plastic / foam.
5. Choose food and local beverages. In addition to food and beverages can be sensed from the region of origin, also to reduce CO2 emissions generated from imported goods.
6. Bring your own drink bottle so that it can be refilled.
7. Bring your own shopping bags to reduce plastic waste.
8. Disposing of waste in place.
9. Take a tourist spot that offers a more ‘green’ or have environmental programs.
10. Encourage the tourism industry for social responsibility.

A study shows that many foreign

tourists who are willing to pay more of their vacation home activities that help others, environmentally friendly and preserve local culture.

Indonesia to have at least 47 types of natural ecosystem types, ranging from alpine ice in the mountains of Papua, a variety of wetland ecosystems, to the mangrove forests and peat swamps. “This type of ecosystem that dominated lowland wet tropical forests of Sumatra and Kalimantan are Dipterokarpa mixture (MDF) . This type of forest ecosystem which is the highest in the world, “said Ecology Experts from LIPI Dr. Herwint Simbolon confirmed in Jakarta.

In a study in West Kalimantan, reported 326 species of trees above the diameter of five centimeters in one hectare plot at the research that trees are at least 56-134 species attached epiphytic plants, he said.

There’s also the type of heath forest ecosystems to extreme environmental conditions with nutrient-poor soil and without the layers of topsoil and subsoil, but still have the 121-152 tree species in one hectare.

Indonesia, he said, also has a peat swamp forest in poor condition that not only nutrients, but extreme acid substrate, and thus tend to be anaerobic submerged, but still have 72-81 tree species per hectare. “This is still comparable to the mineral soil of tropical forests Wet mountains and forests of tropical wet mineral soil sub mountains in Java each have only 116 and 44 species per hectare, “he said.

Each of these ecosystem types, composition, characteristics, properties, functions and dynamics that differ from each other, he said. Indonesia, he said, had only 1.3 percent of total land area of the world, but has 17 percent of life on earth, where 11 per cent higher plants live in forests.

However, he lamented, wet tropical forests continue to experience problems such as illegal logging, forest fires, conversion to agriculture and settlements, until the drought.

The conclusion was based on archaeological studies of the fossils found in a cave in Northern California. Biologists from the University of Stanford, Calif., who was involved in the study had found evidence that populations of small mammals out during the last episode of global warming around 12 thousand years ago.

Many species, the researchers said, never recovered their populations as before. ”They are very susceptible to temperature increases,” the report they published the scientific journal Nature.

The study was conducted in a cave at the foot of the mountain Samwell southern Cascades. Thousands of years ago, populations of small mammals and Voles gopher species during the late Pleistocene age is equivalent to the current deer mice. As the earth heats up, this population continues to walk toward extinction.

According to professor of biology at Stanford University, Elizabeth Hadly, the extinction of small mammals is very influential on the food chain and ecosystems, reducing biodiversity up to 30 percent.

Head of the study, Jessica Blois highlighting climate change could have an effect on all types of biodiversity, not only looks striking species only. ”Changes in temperature over the next hundred years is greater than the current temperature. Even a small mammal that has not been found in any species and type of relatives were walking towards extinction,” Hadly said in a statement.

The third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-3) issued by the United Nations recently losing biodiversity at a level unprecedented. The institute is calling for the government of each country to take immediate action to avoid a major disaster for biodiversity in their respective countries.

The United Nations appealed to governments of cities around the world prepare for natural disaster risk. This is considering the condition of the earth that continues vulnerable to disasters.

The appeal was delivered through a campaign held by the United Nations in an effort to strengthen the resilience of urban areas through the theme of ‘Making the city to be tough: my city prepare. ”

“The city and its inhabitants will be tough to get benefits when implementing urban actions in reducing the risk of natural disasters,” said the special envoy of the United Nations Secretary General to Decrease Impact of Disasters, Margareta Wahlstrom, as quoted by the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York.

The campaign itself was launched following a wave of high-risk of natural disasters recently. As Haiti’s violent earthquake, and volcanic eruptions in Iceland that could cripple aviation activities in the European region.

The campaign will run for two years with a target to make city governments around the world to run 10 steps for the high stand helpless against the risk of natural disasters.
These steps include government investments in strengthening the city drainage system to reduce the occurrence of floods.

Other measures include investing in urban planning, infrastructure, protecting the building, and creating early warning systems about the disaster.

According to the United Nations, the campaign will be officially launched this weekend in Bonn, Germany. According to the plan will be attended by more than 1,000 municipal leaders from around the world.

The launch will be followed by the five mayors, from Bonn (Germany), Mexico City (Mexico), Saint Louis (Senegal), Karlstad (Sweden), Larreynaga-Malpaisillo (Nicaragua), and Albay (Philippines). The five cities that will be the first to express the determination to run at least one of the 10 steps of natural disaster risk reduction efforts.
expressed from the Republika newspaper.

Natural beauty of Ternate, who was skeptical. In one district in North Maluku, you not only can enjoy the beauty of the mountains and beaches, but also the wealth of history.

Feeling tired for a four-hour journey from Jakarta to Ternate, gone already, so I was a Garuda Indonesia climbed Babullah Sultan arrived at the Airport. The exact location of the airport on the edge of the sea reminds me of when he was at Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali. Waves plus shore breeze that whispered as if to greet the passengers who got off the plane.

Gamalama arrogantly standing over there makes me more impressed. This mountain has become the icon of Ternate. Not surprisingly, Ternate was mentioned as a very beautiful city, surrounded by the sea and located at the foot of the towering mountain Gamalama.

The beauty that unfolds before the eye made me reluctant to depart from the airport. But this is just the beginning, may still be many other charms that will hypnotize me. So, I rushed to clean up any luggage. I immediately left the airport is situated about 5 km from the city center and toward the south of the island to visit one of the famous restaurant on the island, Floridas.

Located about 10 km from the city center, this restaurant offers a taste of eastern Indonesian cuisine. Various types of seafood dishes with incredible flavors presented, covered with a warm drink water mixed goraka pieces and fried banana walnut sauce, which is one of the specialty of Ternate, while enjoying the stunning view.

the Moluccas sea, we can see the beautiful scenery that has been overshadowed Maitara Island, Again, the Ternate in this restaurant will spoil the beauty of the tourists. Located on the shores of Tidore Island from this restaurant. Wonder if the beauty of this scene is depicted in a thousand rupiah bills ( Indonesia currency ). The beauty of this archipelago scenery is only one tourist attraction on the island previously known for these spices.

Other exotic objects that will leave you mesmerized the surrounding seascape Ternate. Small islands of green that looked across the ocean, also presents a beautiful panorama. Meanwhile, of Ternate city center will be seen the mountains or islands adjacent to the island Tidore Maitara.

Well, here you can also enjoy the beauty of sunlight when they want to move from the eastern horizon. This scenery can be seen with a beautiful view of the plateau south of Ternate. From here you will be satisfied with enjoying the sun rises from behind the Hiri Island located to the east of the island. That golden pink shine even more beautiful when the waves hit the swash and running to the shore.

From the spot, you can see the summit of Mount Tidore clearly. Mount Tidore maximum beauty can be seen in the morning. In the afternoon, the mountain is usually not seen because of thick fog wrapping. Gamalama peaks can also be seen from this place. Clearly visible at the top of the volcano that has spewed hot lava several times, it seems the lines of the former black hot lava flow. Line that resembles the tassel that hung from the top of each other Gamalama.

If you want to surround the city, various transportation modes to choose from. In Ternate, the various public transportation with a variety of routes is very easy to find. In fact, the number of intersections is attached plan public transit routes to facilitate travel of citizens and tourists.
